Below are instructions to convert the dual-boot HP Z400 workstation (shipped in Fall 2012 for use with the Xilinx ML605, Altera DE4-530 and BEE3 FPGA boards) into a Windows 7 only configuration. This provides the benefit of additional hard disk space (2x 1TB drivers), which is currently half-occupied by the Linux partition. Use the following instructions:
- Boot the system into Windows 7
- Go to Control Panel; select Backup and Restore
- Create a system repair disk (burn to a blank CD/DVD and leave in the drive)
- Restart the system; press any key to boot from the CD/DVD
- You will see System Recovery Options – User Recover Tools; click “Next”
- Once you have reached the System Recovery Options screen, select Command Prompt
- Type bootrec.exe /fixmbr
- Type bootrec.exe /fixboot
- Type bootrec.exe /rebuildbcd
- Reboot the workstation (remove the CD/DVD) and Windows 7 should boot on its own (no grub loader)
- To recapture the disk space used by Linux:
- Reboot the workstation and type CTRL+I to enter the RAID BIOS
- Select Option 3, and from there select both disks, then OK
- Reboot the workstation; Windows 7 will come up with two disks showing
