With a 40-year history, CMC Microsystems has been at the forefront of technological change, managing federal, and provincial government investments to introduce advanced technology to support research, and impact Canada’s industrial high-tech landscape. Our newest initiative, FABrIC, is a five-year national program to strengthen and stimulate the Canadian Semiconductor Ecosystem by providing funding opportunities for industry and academics for new technology development, and by developing world-class talent with global impact. This role supports the successful delivery of the FABrIC program.
The IT Director is a senior leader that has the primary accountability for IT operational infrastructure and enterprise solutions to support and enhance CMC’s operational effectiveness in the delivery of the FABrIC program and other CMC initiatives. This includes ownership of the IT strategy and execution of IT systems, projects, and practices that drive measurable business outcomes. This role also partners with the CISO to ensure the security and integrity of our data and information systems. The salary range for this position is $106,000 to $144,000 annually.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain authority and accountability for exploiting the value of IT infrastructure. Be the corporate leader of IT implementation that helps support the exploitation of strategic and tactical business opportunities.
- Build partnerships with executive leadership and board members to establish the vision for IT as a business asset — to exploit IT capabilities to maximize the value derived from IT.
- Institute an IT operating model that is fully compliant with the organizations’ security and privacy programs.
- Lead transformation efforts by developing IT talent and maturing the IT capability of the organization.
Details
- Align information technology strategy with business objectives, developing a strategic IT applications and systems architecture plan that emphasises scalability, security, and operational efficiency
- In collaboration with the CISO, implement an IT management framework for the efficient and timely delivery of IT projects and for effective change management and associated controls.
- Ensure that priority for compliance with ISO 27001 requirements, security directives from the CISO, and all associated security and privacy policies are executed and enforced
- Identify and mitigate IT risks, ensure compliance with regulations, manage data protection policies and procedures, develop a disaster recovery plan, and collaborate with the CISO on security topics
- Lead and manage the IT department, develop staff, manage performance, foster culture
- In collaboration with the CAD Director, optimize/upgrade existing compute infrastructure for the management and delivery of CAD tools/licenses to over 10000 subscribers. Implement operational solutions to improve help desk response/efficiencies
- In collaboration with the CAD and FAB Directors, optimize/upgrade existing compute infrastructure for the management of highly confidential design data from CMC’s academic and industry clients.
- Responsible for IT budget (services and equipment)
- Oversee IT activities and projects from conception to completion, ensuring delivery is timely, within budget, and meets organizational requirements
- Develop and maintain applications and enterprise systems framework – manage lifecycles by identifying needs for upgrades, configurations, new systems, etc.
- Communicate IT strategies and initiatives effectively across all levels of the organization, including regular management reporting
- Stay current with emerging technology trends, guiding the adoption of new systems to enhance organisational effectiveness
Technical Requirements and Qualifications
- A minimum of seven years of progressive management experience with a track record of success within Information Technology or Information Systems
- University degree in relevant program, or equivalent
- Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and project management skills
- Ability to communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Knowledge of IT systems, cloud and data centers, e.g., VMs, containers, AWS, Azure
- Knowledge of business applications/enterprise systems, e.g., Salesforce, HPC, CAD/EDA
- Ability to understand the wider objectives of the organization
- Experience and/or knowledge of science and technology preferred
- Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines
- Experience in integrating complex, cross-corporate processes and information strategies, and designing strategic metrics, KPIs and scorecards
- Bilingual (English/French) as asset
- Some travel may be required
